Calm Shore is a small oil study on gesso panel, 10 x 8 inches (approx 25 x 20cm).

The viewer is looking directly out to sea from the standpoint of the beach towards a bright calm sea.
Inspired by visits to the Norfolk coastal town of Cromer, Christopher Witchall continues his preoccupation with the light, movement and colours of the ocean, a movement frozen in time between the ancient past and an endless future.

The artist’s unsentimental approach to his subjects combine two great passions - a love of traditional painting techniques and a fascination with the photographic image. The result of this are paintings that are both painterly and highly realistic.

Calm Shore is painted on a deep edge cradled gesso panel, so there is no need for framing and is ready to hang. It is signed on the back and supplied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
