Inspired by the energy and colour of the film by Luca Guadagnino; this depicts a muscular and stunningly attractive man with the swagger and over-confidence of the Oliver character in the film. I painted with several types of water-based paint, including vibrant watercolour tones, gouache and a metallic watercolour paint.
The light and shading of the figure are supposed to represent the sparkling summer sunshine and reflective qualities of the Italian heat. The figure pays homage to the modellesque beauty of classic male magazines and harking back to the Greek sculpture which is so focussed upon in the film.
Perhaps he's even wearing some of those shorts which were the subject of a scene with Elio putting them in his face...
