Original artwork description:

Tomales Bay is a long, narrow inlet of the Pacific Ocean in Marin County in northern California in the United States. It is approximately 15 mi long and averages nearly 1.0 mi wide. The long, slender bay separates the Point Reyes Peninsula from the mainland. On the western side of the bay, the Point Reyes Peninsula is primarily dedicated to a 71,000-acre park, complete with pristine beaches, hiking trails, and unobstructed views of the coastline. On the eastern side, a series of small communities line the waterfront.

I painted a small study for this studio painting, while participating in the California Art Club paint-out during the Painters' Retreat on Tomales Bay weekend a few years ago.
This is a quick peek into the oyster farming in a small quaint town of Marshall.
Established in 1909, Tomales Bay Oyster Company is the California’s oldest continuously run shellfish farm. Pacific Oysters are a truly sustainable crop; they require no fertilizer, no feed, just a saltwater estuary and natural phytoplankton brought in by the tide to produce a delicious succulent oyster. Few foods carry the flavor of “place” quite like an oyster. Tomales bay has the cool, clean water rich in plankton that oysters feed on to grow plump and sweet.

Materials:
Oil on oil-primed Claessens Belgian linen on 1/8 MDF archival art panel, the back of the panel finished with melamine that prevents warping and deterioration. Painting surface is protected with a coat of Gamvar varnish. The painting is unframed, and it will require a frame to hang on the wall. It will fit into a standard (in the US) 16"x20" frame.
