Original artwork description:

About 1.25 million years ago, a spectacular volcanic eruption created the 13-mile wide circular depression now known as the Valles Caldera

Small piece using loose watercolor washes quickly over a very rough paper with a writing brush. A fun way to bust loose and explore with watercolors that are different from my usual approach. 11" x 7" image size, matted and ready to frame.

Open skies, storms coming in, sweeping vistas, mountains and grasslands all call for broad strokes and bold light and shadows. I strive for an economy of color and execution that can bring a landscape to life.

Materials used:

watercolor and arches paper
