I have always been fascinated by Mandala’s - both in terms of their spiritual meaning and their beautiful symmetry. This butterfly sculpture, made from cut watercolour paper, captures the symmetry and circular motion of a Mandala, and showcases the beautiful silhouette of different breeds of butterfly.

I cut each butterfly from thick watercolour paper and painted each butterfly individually in strong pigment watercolour paint. The result is a beautifully balanced geometric piece, that can be viewed from all angles and offer the viewer something different each time.

The butterflies’ wings are raised to give this picture a beautiful depth.
The box frame allows butterflies to be carefully layered, and for their raised wings to create movement.

Every butterfly is painted cut, folded and glued with precision. I take great time over each piece and display it in my home before offering it for sale. This piece looks beautiful in both bright day light and lower evening light.
