I often start my paintings with just a title and then visualise imagery in relation to it. "Buttercup" is one of those paintings. Although it turned out to be very different to my original idea, which came from a day out in the park with my Sister and my Niece. My Niece was quite young then. I remember her holding a buttercup under her Mum's chin "to see if she likes butter"!
Some years passed, however I have kept the memory of such a simple and joyful moment and taken this inspiration to create a painting entitled "Buttercup". Things often fall into place for such paintings, as I found the right pose for a model and a little yellow bird who seems to be engaging in conversation with the her! "Buttercup" is just another one of my many ideas focusing on how we interact with nature. When I have exhibited this piece people have often expressed their enjoyment of looking at the bird and seeing how both bird and woman are communicating!
