A linocut inspired by the striking conical hill called Burrow Mump in Somerset, which sits beside two rivers - the Tone and the Parrett.
I discovered this spot recently on one of my return trips to Somerset, and was very interested in this charismatic location - superficially similar to Glastonbury Tor, but very peaceful, with just a few houses and a handy pub below the hill, plus major footpaths along the rivers Parrett and Tone.
The whole area is associated with King Alfred, and it is intriguing to imagine the Somerset Levels around here in the pre-Medieval period, with its waterways, flooded plains, abbeys, palaces and islands.
Burrow Mump would have been an island in those days. Another candidate for King Arthur's Avalon, perhaps? The hill is entirely natural and the current ruined church on top of the hill was built in 1793.
This is a hand-pulled linocut, roughly A4, in water-based inks in an edition of 50. It is printed on acid-free paper, signed by me, The paper is slightly larger than the image to enable you to frame the image with a standard-sized mount.
I send smaller prints wrapped in cellophane in a reinforced envelope or parcel. Larger prints or international deliveries may be sent rolled in a tube with protective tissue.
