This is a portrait of the beautiful Marsha Hunt, a singer, performer, novelist, model who was the star of the Musical "Hair" in the 60s.
I did not know about her until recently when I read an article on a news paper about the fact that she had to sell the love letters Mick Jagger sent to her during the '60s. Apparently they had a secret relationship for some time and she was the inspiration of the song "Brown Sugar" by the Rolling Stones.
After seeing her pictures and reading about her life I had to paint her!
For the painting I used alcohol inks and water based inks on canvas. Because the alcohol inks work much better on a non porous surface I had to coat the canvas with various layers of gesso and gloss, a process that took a a few days. I love to play with this type of inks, such vibrant colours and their fluidity can be only achieved on a non absorbent surface.
