I've tried to capture the atmosphere of a late night café on this painting. On the outside there are tables and chairs along with a few customers drinking and a waitress taking orders. The entrance leads to the bright bar where a busy barman is working. The sky is a blend of cerulean and viridian, casting a strong contrast against the coloured café. As I stood outside with the brush in hand, I took a deep breath and began to quickly sketch the composition as the night was fast approaching. As I worked, I couldn't help but think about Van Gogh's night café painted in Provence in 1888. Using complementary colours his aim was to convey a mood, as he wrote to Theo: “I’ve tried to express the terrible passions of humanity with the red and the green..”
I found myself drawn into the world of Van Gogh’s painting for a long time, feeling the passion and intensity that he so masterfully portrayed on canvas. The way he captured the intensity of human emotions through his choice of colours was truly inspiring. It made me realize the power that colours have in conveying a message or setting a mood in art. It is a reminder of the impact that art can have on our emotions and how something as simple as colour can speak volumes.
I love it ❤️ 🎨
