Original artwork description:

“Bright Morning Star” is an acrylic on canvas painting 102cms H x 76cms W x 2cms D. The painting continues the series of land, sea and sky. It takes its name from a traditional Appalachian spiritual song. The painting is inspired by the early morning light and the dramatic colour seen in the coastal skies where I live. I walk every day along the Sefton coastline so I see all the changes that the seasons bring and the most dramatic changes I see are in the coastal skies. Please see the photographs that document this inspirational setting. The painting does not try to replicate the literal appearance of a coastal landscape it is a painterly response to the striking colour and light seen in a spacious open environment. I look to artists such as Barbara Rae, Turner, Monet and the Post-Impressionists and the Fauvists for inspiration.
