Original artwork description:

I thought this view shows a very traditionally English scene with a lot of slanted rooftops, chimney stacks, aerials and satellite dishes visible. It actually surprised me a bit to see this in London, but I guess when the area is protected and can’t be changed then this is how it looks on top! I was drawn to this scene not only because of all the details and angles, but I also think that with having lived in Taipei City for over 22 years, it seemed to take me back to views I’d seen in my hometown of Thornton, Liverpool. My brother and I shared a converted loft and the view out the skylight was similar, looking out at back gardens, rooftops, chimneys and a church in the distance. Some people might find it mundane but I always like the everyday matter of factness about these scenes, as I think they show a reality of daily life that is very English and still exists amidst the modernisation.
