A pale yellow sunflower with petals edged in deep burgundy, and "blushing" with touches of rose and wine. The flower is accented by a background of brilliant red cockscomb and green foliage. A peach-pink zinnia and purple phlox peek out from the background at the upper right.
Painted from life at my home in Minneapolis in oil on board with both brush and palette knife. The texture of the paint compliments the shape of the flower petals and the sunflower's center.
