From Mending Broken Souls
In “Mending Broken Souls” I stitch together torn pieces of paper. Torn paper and different length threads determine how deep wounds run. One of the papers that I use is called “Amate” from Mexico, which has been made since pre-Hispanic times from a tree bark called “Jonote”. After the texture is applied to the canvas or wood surface, the painting phase begins using wet and dry brush techniques.
Through my work, I aim to transmit the message that it doesn’t matter how broken you are, the wounds will always heal.
