In the heat of a beautiful French summer’s day, I spot these faded blue shutters, closed to keep out the sun. The walls show some signs of decay, but this only adds to the charm. Beneath the stucco are ancient stones, reused over centuries of building, the petrified reincarnation of generations before. The air is redolent of lavender, sage, wild garlic and the dusty wind that arrives from Africa. All too soon peach-hued evening will arrive and with it the gentle simmering of stews, of wine and bread. But for now at least all is still in the soporific heat. This lovely and realistic work makes a perfect addition to any collection.
Texture has been added to create extra depth. The canvas is 0.5 inches deep and can therefore hang without a frame if wished.
