Original artwork description:

This painting belongs to the Blue Reflections series which portraits the peaceful view of a pond with floating water lily pads in blooming. With impressionism style, the subject does not appear in painting exactly as it looks in real life. Sterling sees the pond with his romantic eyes and thus it's more vivid. The more you look at the painting, the more you feel it.

Sterling finds painting creatively satisfying and explains, "Painting gives me complete control from start to finish, which is good and bad. Good when the work is good, ... bad, when there is no one else to blame for bad but me."

"Romantic Impressionism is what I do...I think the term best expresses how and why I paint. I appreciate, or try to appreciate, all forms of art, but the one that first stirred me was Impressionism. To me it was bold, and full of life and color. It was uninhibited and had a magic quality to it. Rather than attempt to tell you something accurately, it just made you feel it! That's why I set out to interpret life through this style of art; it invites the viewers' emotions to take part."

His paintings possess an immediate, expressive quality that invites the viewer to make an emotional connection with them. Whether an intimate interior, vibrant cityscape or romantic getaway, his goal is to touch your soul.

He credits as influences Claude Monet (for full color and bold brushwork), Joaquin Sorolla (for passionate expression) and John Singer Sargent (for simple mastery). The freedom associated with the creative process excites Sterling. “It’s precious and the most fulfilling part of being an artist”.
