This is a study of a sitting figure with a blue background. It is reminiscent of a Gauguin painting in as much it is a voluptuous female drawn in a simple style. This is a pastel I drew of a nude at a life class. The model was very curvaceous with a beautiful profile . She was a delight to draw. The backcloth is a stunning cobalt blue which offset the contours of her body. I used Henri Roche pastels which are one of the best you can buy. They are made in France and date back to what the French impressionists used. This is one of a series of nude life studies using vibrant colours to offset the female body. The pastel drawing is framed with a white mount and a white wooden frame which makes it look contemporary .
