I photographed this fruit bat during a trip to Kenya. Although at the time it was daylight and he was resting I decided to place him in a night time context, what started out as a simple natural history illustration morphed into an atmospheric piece of art. The blue moon addition was a way of adding dramatic effect and also incorporating a hint of toning variation to the background. I blocked in the background using marker pen and then worked over it with coloured pencil.
The piece comes with a black mount as I have incorporated this element into the composition.
