I frequently pass this well-kept barn and have depicted it as it looked before it was repainted. I love the look of weathered wood, but am happy the owners are taking good care of it. The surface of this painting was built up in multiple layers of oil paint on a stretched canvas, using a palette knife and brushes in an impressionistic style with impasto texture.

Rural landscapes and natural areas are becoming increasingly scarce in the much of the country. Neglected farm buildings decay and can be lost to age, fire, and demolition. Once gone, their unique materials and construction cannot be replaced. I enjoy painting their different architectural styles, those well preserved and those weathered and worn, as a tribute to our farming heritage.
