Original artwork description:

In a gale, depending on the 'fetch' or distance that the wind is blowing over, an enormous sea can develop but for a small boat it's usually the short sharp breaking seas on top of the ground swell that cause the damage...and discomfort. The wind then whips the tops from these breaking seas and the air becomes saturated with flying spindrift...often obscuring the contours of the waves themselves.
