"Blowing in the Wind" Bog Oak wood carving, from the series ----- Fossilized Wood
The natural curve of the wood, offers the shape of hair blowing to one side.
Free standing figure.
The head is removable for ease of transporting. It is secured to the torso by a sturdy peg.
To explain a little about the carved material, whilst living in the Fens, East Anglia, I came across Bog Oak and decided to use the medium for this sculpture, due to it’s qualities (these include, no grain, hardness, blackness) plus, the unusualness of wood
Buried in peat bogs and preserved from decay by the surrounding conditions, when dug up, it might thousands of years old.
The wood is usually a deep black colour.
This carving is from a collection of about 30 works, which I carved whilst living in the Fens during the 1990's.
Half of these sculptures sold at exhibitions, the others have been in my private collection until now, when I have decided to offer them for sale.
