It's cherry blossom time! My favourite time of the year. So I'm celebrating with my version in watercolours :)
I created a graduated watercolour painting with swirling lines and shapes, in pinks, with touches of red, purple, and yellow, and a few dashes of metalic watercolours.
Each of the three dimensional flowers is cut from the watercolour painting in three different sizes, and I've beant the petals upwards. The edges and backs are painted with gold watercolour to give a shimmer to the whole piece.
The flowers are decoratively arranged in a graduating colour square, on splattered metalic blue watercolour, in the centre of the frame. They are mounted on tiny foam board plinths in various heights to give a 3D effect - higher at the top and getting lower at the base.
The whole piece is framed within a white glazed (perspex) deep box frame.
The result is a vibrant and colourful modern relief design revealing individual flowers on closer inspection, with different shadows cast from the up-turned petals depending on the direction of the light.
