The oil paint applied with coarse and gestural brushstrokes in the background is in places run and dripping, the warm hue of burnt Terra di Siena is in places more intense and then again more delicate. On top of this, a playful darker pattern moves across the canvas. In front of this background sits a young woman, a nude portrait, the shapes of her body are modeled by light and shadow and contrast with her surroundings in their austere black and white. The young woman looks at the viewer, but seems lost in her thoughts. Her posture and gaze radiate both self-confidence and dreaminess.
