Original artwork description:

This painting is of a small group of silver birch saplings right outside my studio. They are set against an area of dark hedging which makes them look particularly striking in the late sun. Although very small, I have kept the brush strokes loose and free and have mounted the painting in a frame with a 'shadow gap' between canvas and frame to create impact.
