I made this series of paintings of Bethany, a model, when on a Tim Benson workshop a little while ago. Tim, President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters amongst other accolades, is known for his large loose brush marks which make up a patchwork of colour to complete his portraits. I think my style suited the workshop very well - I'm used to applying loose marks of colour and very much enjoy it.
The paintings were all made over two days, with one wide brush per painting and only a limited palette, comprising: Titanium White, French Ultramarine Blue, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Red, Burnt Umber and Alizarin Crimson.
