Original artwork of the city of Berlin, Germany, painted on canvas and stretched on double wooden bars.
Having visited Berlin many times over the past 50 years, I have seen this city in many different stages. I experienced Berlin as a divided city during the Communist times when the famous landmarks of East Berlin were crumbling. Then I walked on top of the Berlin Wall during the reunification and eventually saw a modern reunited city emerge.
With all these experiences I had in Berlin, I painted the city many times in different styles. This piece was part of a series of four Berlin painting I completed in 2012 for a gallery exhibition.
Below are the landmarks you will find in the painting:
From left to right behind the Brandburg Gate: Victoria statue of the Victory Column , Berlin Cathedral, Alexander TV Tower, Memorial Church, Red City Hall, Victory Column and the Berlin bear.
On the towers of the Cathedral and the Memorial Church you can see the icons of the Berlin traffic lights in red and green.
