While travelling through Belgium I came across a re-enactment scene and was drawn to this self absorbed individual.
I apply the pastel in successive layers to achieve a soft structure with some areas having a more robust textured element. I use artists hogs hair brushes to manipulate some of the work to give it density. The work is painted on a Superior Studland coloured board as I like the rigidity and fine surface.
Finally the pastel figure is fixed to protect it and the background is acrylic paint. The work only needs framing to to make it ready to hang and should preferably be framed under glass with a mount. A suggested frame width of at least 60mm or more for this size painting. Narrow frames on large paintings have tendency to not sit well and have a habit of warping.
