Artwork description:

This is a zinc etching of a pilgrimage through the town of Belalcazar in Spain. During a stay at the Artist Residency La Fragua I would spend time walking in the surrounding landscape and explore the fields and trails that ran from the Convento de Santa Clara into the surrounding land.

During one of my walks I trekked across the land from the convent to the castle situated in the town, sketching views I could see during my walk. These sketches were laid on top of one another, exploring ways of seeing and juxtaposing various scenery together to form one image of the experience.

I created a zinc etching upon my return to the UK in 2015 and recently I have been printing these etchings and using Tempera to colour the image, layering colours on top of one another, allowing the colours to blend and bleed into one another.

Each layer was added and the whole print was immersed in water to wash out, before adding another layer of colour, forming a softer image of the painting.

This is an Artist Proof of a proposed ten I am producing in colour.

Materials used:

Lithographic ink on fabriano with tempera paint.
