The town of Belalcazar lies in the the heart of Spain 100 kms North of Cordoba. The town is steeped in history and is overlooked by the Muslim Castle Sotomayor, still retaining evidence of cannonball destruction from a battle with Napoleon's troops. The landscape is agricultural, surrounded by the beautiful blue mountains - expansive and breathtaking in its views. The parched land of the Summer months give this place an amazing beauty - capturing both the growth and erosion of the land over time.
This oil pastel drawing captures both the beauty and the depth of the landscape, taken during one of my walks in the landscape during the five weeks I was based here in Belalcazar, staying at and working at the residency of La Fragua; an amazing place filled with amazing people.
Oil Pastel, Turpentine, Linseed Oil, Stand Oil, Cartridge Paper.
