There is an irony in painting a still life of beehives. They should be places of buzzing activity and life. But these hives are semi-derelict - neglected but rescuable, like the bee colonies themselves. The impressionistic style is leaning toward semi-abstract and the use of a palette knife to introduce delicate texture gives a contemporary feel to an evocative subject.

This painting is sold unframed but is suitable to do so should you wish. I do not varnish my paintings , as I prefer the slightly chalky look of the oils as laid down. If you would like it varnished before sending, I can do so at no extra cost.

The painting is signed, dated and titled on the reverse and initialled on the front.
