In response to Artfinder's collaborative art competition with Octopus Energy I have made a few paintings using completely sustainable or recycled materials. I want to depict the world as I see it today, stunning and extraordinary. These paintings are my diary of experiencing landscape through walking and cycling every day, and working outside in the fresh air, looking at the changing colours of the world around me and the ever changing skies.
Graphenstone house paints, which are 100% mineral and use revolutionary graphene in their formulation are the paint I have used. This incredible lime based product can clean the air by absorbing CO2, their packaging is 80% recycled and can be 100% recycled in it's turn. Using these tinted paints has been a lot of fun and very engaging. I have not been able to mix and use colour as I normally would, and have focused on being free with mark making, and really piling on layers of paints, using sticks, palette knives, dripping paints from cartons and flicking.
I have found used bits of board, in my studio, shed and in skips to work on.
I have used earth, leaves, and twigs in mixed into the paints too, to add texture. The subject of all the painting is my beautiful world. Where I live in rural South East England sustains me as an artist. I work outside as much as possible, and follow the season in my work. Both my abstract and more figurative pieces are concerned with beauty, vibrancy and memory, all triggered from both my enviroment and my sensibility as an artist.
This piece is inspired by the sea, beach and colours of the south coast. I love walking by the sea and spend time there in all seasons. I think winter sunshine is my favourite, and this painting reflects that.
