Artwork description:

Pass the incident as a simple accident. The investigations that observe the light on the affair far away, the confessions extracted with torture and a process marked by visions of form, controlled by the death sentence issued by Pope Clement VIII. The execution takes place on 11 September 1599, in front of Castel Sant'Angelo, with enormous participation of the people, contrary to an unjust and unforgiving capital sentence. It is said that the beheading was also assisted by Caravaggio, as the picture of Giuditta and Oloferne would testify.
The painting is part of the collection of the Barberini family since 1818.
In the following decades all the acquisition, foreigners visiting Rome will be accompanied to Palazzo Barberini to see the face of the young woman, condemned for having rebelled against her father's physical and sexual violence.
Writers of the caliber of Shelley, Stendhal, Artaud, will make it a romantic, fragile and courageous heroine.
