I paint and draw in an attempt to interpret a view, a feeling or a memory.

When painting on location, the act of intense, silent observation provides greater opportunity to absorb the experience of time and place.

My paintings are visual notes about colour, line and texture, recorded in oil using quick and light brushstrokes.

This visual record may provide information for further paintings; some naturalistic, using photographs for reference, while others are more experimental and rely mainly on instinct for choice of colour and marks, focusing on balance, rhythm and harmony.
