Artwork description:

I love the beach, whether its a blustery winter British beach, a tropical beach, a crowded beach, where you can people watch or a deserted beach. A magical landscape. So this beach can be wherever you want it to be!

In real life, the photo which inspired it was taken at Bamburgh in the Northumberland Coast. Behind me there are walkways through sand dunes, on the cliffs above is a castle, and around the other side of the castle the villagers are playing cricket. Honestly it was like a scene from a film!

A reduction linocut is a totally hand made print. No machines are used. Only one piece of Lino is used throughout the process and so no prints can be reproduced.

I draw the image I want to create on the Lino, in reverse. Using carving tools I take away all the lightest parts which will be the colour of the the paper, I then ink up the Lino with a colour and press this onto some thick printing paper. Anything I want to be that colour I carve away and ink up the next colour and so the process goes until the image appears.

This print went through this process 5 times, to achieve the final image. I used water based artist inks and the paper is Italian Fabriano paper, the combination gives a beautiful matt print.

The printed area is approximately 30.6cm x 20.3cm and the paper size is approximately 36.7x 26.5 cm.

This piece will be shipped flat.

Please note, outside the U.K. and USA local customs/duty charges may be incurred. These are the responsibility of the customer and outside my control.
