Brewed from barley, a glass of beer or whisky connects us to our ancient ancestors, the first humans, who lived in ‘the cradle of civilisation’ in which barley sprang. It is the ‘Near East’ of today, spanning the countries of Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine and Egypt.
