Original artwork description:

Pin Mill is a small hamlet on the River Orwell just down stream from Ipswich. It is a popular location for artists and sailers. When we visited, we enjoyed a pleasant lunch in the 'Butt and Oyster' pub then sat in the garden where I produced this small sketch in 'line and wash' style. I managed to finish the picture before the tide came in and the path eventually flooded. It shows a Thames Barge (probably the Melissa), which like many later built barges was constructed of steel rather than the traditional wood, laying beside two other converted house boats.

Materials used:

Windsor & Newton artist quality watercolours on Saunders Waterford 140lb paper.
