2021, "Balin" - stone wall sculpture, ready to hang

This original melted volcanic rock wall sculpture is one of the latest artworks of the talented Bulgarian contemporary professional sculptor Ognyan Chitakov, deeply inspired by postmodernism, expressionism and fantasy. The artwork represents one of the dwarf characters from J. R. R. Tolkien's novels The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. Balin was a Dwarven leader, the son of Fundin and elder brother of Dwalin and a member of Durin's Folk. He was one of the Dwarves that travelled with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf to reclaim Erebor. When Bilbo first met Balin, the Dwarf was very old looking with a white beard and a red hood and would later become close friends with the hobbit.

The artist's concept is to melt the artwork's stones at high degree temperatures, reaching the point where they melt, going back to their origin magma state and then slowly cooled down. This way the artist restarts the formation of the stone material and brings it naturally back to a new organic shape and name it after one of Tolkien's fantasy characters. The wall sculpture is one extraordinary melted red tuff masterpiece and exquisite modern home wall décor.
