This is an outdoor painting, painted on-site in the pretty town of Bad Münstereifel, Germany. I often travel to this region to paint and this is one of a series of paintings of the Eifel. As a plein air painter who usually paints fields and wildflowers and all things natural, it is not often that I paint in towns. I visit the Eifel because I love the open and rugged landscape there and it is normally peace and quiet that I'm looking for! However, Bad Münstereifel is great for shopping and for having lunch and, on visiting the town for just these things, I was attracted to this street scene as a subject. With its colourful flower tubs, umbrellas and facades , it invites us to wander down that lane and take a seat in the shade of the umbrellas.
