Original artwork description:

In this painting, I have depicted people gathering on the street, simplifying their forms into sculptural representations. These figures, placed against the rigid and simplified architecture, creating a visual contrast: the hard edges of the cityscape serve as a complementary backdrop, enhancing the overall composition.

In the lower left corner, a woman engrossed in her daily chores hangs out laundry, adding a touch of domesticity amidst the urban landscape. In the middle of the scene, a young man tenderly holds a child, symbolizing the continuity of life and the passing of traditions from one generation to another. Adjacent to them, another woman sits on a wall, and through her, we catch a glimpse of an open window.

The artist's primary focus was to emphasize the interplay between the figures and the cityscape, guided by a strong sense of structure. This intentional approach lends an architectural quality to the composition, creating a visual rhythm throughout the painting. The figures seem to be an integral part of the urban environment, almost merging with the buildings, implying a symbiotic relationship between humans and the city they inhabit.

Notably, the artist draws inspiration from the renowned French painter, Ferdinand Leger, whose influence is evident in the bold simplification of forms and the use of strong geometric shapes. Like Leger, I have attempted to embrace the visual language of modernism to convey their unique perspective on the urban experience. It serves as a reminder of the interconnection between humanity and the urban environment, paying homage to the spirit of modernism through the enduring influence of Ferdinand Leger.
