ORIGINAL SAVA DRAGANOV ARTWORK !!!

2023, "Awilix" - wood wall sculpture

This original oak wood wall mask is one of the latest elaborate carving artworks of the talented contemporary Bulgarian professional sculptor Sava Draganov, deeply inspired by postmodernism, cubism and folk art. It is one extraordinary wood masterpiece and exquisite home wall décor.

The ancient Mayans worshipped different gods and goddesses, who were playing an important role in all aspects of life. Awilix is the goddess of the moon, queen of the night, who had a large kingdom in the highlands of Guatemala. She was the patron deity of the Nijaʼibʼ noble lineage at the Kʼicheʼ capital Qʼumarkaj, with a large temple in the city. The modern descendants of the Nijaʼibʼ in Momostenango revere rival syncretised forms of the goddess, who are said to be the lovers of the town's patron saint Santiago (St. James).
