Original artwork description:

This is an original oil on canvas painting which expresses the experience of awakening to life and nature. For this painting I have used a technique which I spent some years developing, using the oil painting glazing techniques of the Old masters. My use of this technique has involved seperating each layer of paint film to create the effect of transparent overlapping. The figure is seen to be "growing" from out of the lotus flower. The lotus flower itself is symbolic of purity, resurrection and enlightenment in some Eastern cultures.
