Definition: An Avatar is a made up image that is associated with someone.
My biggest project of all is my self-development.
I am fascinated by the history of primitive cultures, their myths, rituals and beliefs. Through my studies I have discovered that the human mind is a very complex structure. It is a very colourful field, full of mysteries and symbols.
This in part has inspired my obsession with masked faces, dream like figures and spaces.
Some of my inspiration is drawn from the idea of God as an animal or a woman. I also translated the feelings I get from my dreams which I constantly reflect upon and to understand them I learn about their symbolism.
Masks have always played a part in my creative work.
During the Carnival days of the Middle Ages everyone took a part in the Carnival and wore masks and therefore their identities were hidden, there were no masters and slaves, rulers and peasants. All people were equal and unidentified, for those festivals masks were their real faces.
Group of small collages on the construction woven from string, plaited with my fingers.
Ready to hung.
74cm/56,5cm including white wooden framing, visible on the pictures.
