Original artwork description:

Painted on-site at the Bailey Shrub Walk of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum with oil over casein paint on canvas. Features an autumn smokebush in shades of deepest burgundy and purple to brilliant red, contrasted against a background of golden autumn trees. The scene also features a scattering of roses and a hydrangea bush with flowers turning from white to rose. The texture of the foliage, flowers, and ground is enhanced by palette knife work. Further textural contrast is provided by the sky, whose watery effect was created with casein paint and finished with an oil glaze.
