This painting is a small oil on board depicting a corner of the walled garden at Belton House in Lincolnshire. I walk in the extensive and dramatic grounds of Belton a couple of times a week because it is near my home. It is a place which inspires lots of my pictures.
The walled garden isn't a traditional kitchen garden but is laid out with flower beds and has four Nottingham Medlar trees in the middle of the grass. I love old brick of the walls and the church tower which stands outside in the village. I have painted the soft, golden light of October with its deep shadows. Being owned by The National Trust it is accessible year round but looks particularly stunning in autumn.
This painting comes in a mount which I have cut in my studio. The mount measures 20.5 cm x 25.5 cm. It looks good displayed unframed but will fit in an off the shelf frame nicely.
