This painting celebrates the fabulous colour that carpets the Ashdown Forest as the foliage dies back in the Autumn. Besides oil paint I have used oil sticks in vibrant gold, yellow, bronze and umber. These are applied rather like crayons in energetic, scribbled movements to describe the overgrown, tangled undergrowth that's typical of the time of year.
