Artwork description
Atom began from a central point similar to the seed in an avocado. Four cups radiate from this point like a Pelton wheel used in early hydroelectric power stations. The front of the sculpture is a complex series of shells spreading from the centre as seen in some diagrams of the atom. These shells also have a resemblance to the roof of Sydney Opera House. In contrast to the complexity of the front, the back is simplified into two similar interlocking forms.
