Artwork description:

An utterly romantic image that you could gaze at forever. Lush teal water and the pure white waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The image was made on a bright morning in early Summer on a small remote beach in the far north of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. No one but the sandpipers pecking at the edge of the water and the gentle splash of the waves.

There is a beautiful poem by Scotttish Islander Edwin Muir that works so well with this image. Here are a few lines....

The Northern Islands

In favoured summers
These islands have the sun all to themselves
And light a toy to play with, weeks on end.
The empty sky and waters are a shell
Endlessly turning, turning the wheel of light,
While the tranced waves run wavering up the sand.

My work is all about the emotional connection we have to a place and the moment in our memory when we felt such intense pleasure looking at a landscape. I am driven to capture the essence of a place with my camera, working mainly with the colours and shapes in the landscape. I travel to remote islands, to places steeped in history, unspoilt beaches and wild rocky coastlines where I love to work in quiet solitude.

About My Work
I am passionate about using luxury papers/canvases that hold their colours for a lifetime! For these special large prints of my work I use beautiful museum quality Canvas and the highest quality inks. I do all my own printing, having spent years learning this skill I prefer to maintain control of the colour representation at all stages to ensure you get a truly handmade image.

A Note on Canvases
Printed on beautifully fine art CANVAS that is guaranteed not to fade for over a hundred years. Print size 84 x 48 inches. This 16 x 9 ratio is perfect for over a sofa or above a bed. The canvas will have an extra 2 inches white border for the framer to use for the sides of your frame.

FRAMING
My suggestion would be to have this canvas stretched over a simple wooden frame then float framed with a simple wood frame for strength. It is an great size for over the sofa or above the bed or in a room with a high ceiling.

Available in other sizes and on paper on request.

Materials used:
