When I painted “Arrival”, I wanted to capture not just the image of Venice, but the very feeling of anticipation — that subtle thrill of approaching something: the shore, a meeting, a new experience. I imagined gondolas slowly gliding over the turquoise surface, with the iconic façade of the Doge’s Palace quietly welcoming them with light and timeless grace.
For this piece, I chose a hand-woven canvas from the mid-20th century — it immediately set the tone: slightly textured, full of history, perfectly suited to a city where every stone tells a story. I worked in oil, aiming to preserve a sense of lightness and watercolor-like freshness in the brushstrokes, so the water would breathe and the light would dance across the architecture.
The 40×60 cm format allowed me to reflect the rhythm of the arches and the gentle motion of the boats without overwhelming the viewer. I wanted people to feel not only the atmosphere of Venice but that inner resonance — the moment when you’re just about to reach something you’ve been longing for. I hope this painting brings you the same sense of gentle dreaming and inspiration that I felt while creating it.
