Original artwork description:

The Harlequin pattern originated from the character Arlecchino in the Italian theatre movement of Commedia dell’arte, where plays were mostly parodies of specific professions or people in society—greedy old men, cocky soldiers, devious servants, slackers, and know-it-all doctors. The most famous character was Arlecchino, originally portrayed as slow-witted, foul-mouthed, and constantly hungry. His costume was made of burlap with patches of different colors, symbolizing poverty. However, as the character evolved, he became more witty and mischievous, and his costume changed into a more sophisticated dress with distinct geometric shapes and vivid colors.

This painting pokes fun at the ridiculous archetypical patterns that humans fall into and the pattern emphasizes the possibility for our characters to evolve and change. Master your destiny and make this the perfect addition to your eclectic modern & vintage home gallery wall.

Materials used:

acrylic, mixed media, spraypaint
