The ‘Aqua Vitae’ paintings are a series of paintings inspired by a commission from dear friends for their boutique wine company.
The process and history of wine making not only have a strong connection with painting and art history, but they relate in so many wonderful ways, colour, joy, enrichment to name a few. Both very much to do with providing multiple levels of sensual experiences and enriching the spirit.
Hence, I was unashamedly attracted to the notion of a series on ‘the life giving waters’ or ‘Aqua Vitae’.
This painting was about the white wine varietals, especially Chardonnay. Here I was looking at all the colours of the terroir and production. From soil to sunlight, oak barrels, fermentation process and even the colours of the lees. And of course the vines with their many shaded grapes. All the different stages the wine shifts through on its way to the glass. Then the deep buttery hues and rich notes on tasting. All the multiple layers of method, history and enjoyment contained in the glass and then on the canvas.
Mixed Media & Oil Paint on Gallery Wrapped Canvas Artist’s quality stretched canvas/cotton-duck on traditional wooden stretcher. Varnished with Professional Quality Artists Varnish. Painting is titled & signed by the artist on the back.
