Original artwork description:

This is my “ African Queen “.
She is part of a series I began in the late 1990’s, consisting of 34 works interpreting these creatures of the night.
Over the past year I have been re-working this series to add what I feel was missing when I began this journey. I aim to breath new life into them, a new vision that I have found through my years of study and observation in the intervening years,
I try to put colour and life into these works, to radiate power and vulnerability of each individual that I made into a work of art.

Please contact me, to view a moving image of " African Queen ".

( NB the African Queen is now completed and ready to leave my studio for pastures new, to radiate her beauty and power to all that see her. )

If you wish to purchase “ African Queen “, please contact me , to discuss shipping within the UK and Worldwide.

This series began with my travels around South Africa’s Cape.
A friend facilitated an opportunity for me to observe the night workers and their associates.
Each figure is a character I studied during that time. The resulting sculptures are an ongoing series that began during the mid-1990’s.
I create each sculpture, from Herculite plaster and then ‘dress it', using mosaic ostrich eggshell (found in the Karroo desert) plus mirror, paint, treated rolled lead, gems and found objects. Anything and everything are my materials, combining to create an encrusted patina, with an individuality that forms the character of each piece.
This is an on-going series, now focusing on the celebrities in life.

( NB " African Queen " was completed in 2023, beginning many years earlier)

The Artfinder price of " African Queen " does NOT include shipping.
